Who Needs Food Allergy Training in Illinois

Allergen Signage Requirement for Restaurants

To protect consumers, restaurants must post allergen notices that clearly inform guests about how to report food allergies to staff. The staff must then communicate the allergy details to the Person in Charge (PIC) or Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM).

A restaurant is compliant if it meets one of the following:

  • Displays IDPH-approved signage in a visible location

  • Uses menu allergy notices approved in another state before August 23, 2019
