FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

This training is recommended for anyone involved in preparing, serving or handling food, especially in settings open to the public—restaurants, day cares, camps, long-term care, special events, etc.

All provincial public health authorities in Canada recognizes this certificate.

On average, students complete the lessons and quizzes in 8 hours, but you don’t have to finish all at once—the system saves your progress. You have 30 days from enrollment to pass the final exam and complete the course.

Yes. All instructional content, quizzes, and the final exam are completed online—no in-person classroom visits are needed.

To take the course (including the exam), you need a device (desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone) with internet access and a web browser. For the final exam, you’ll also need a functioning webcam and microphone.

Video proctoring ensures the identity of the test-taker, protects the integrity of the exam, and prevents cheating. Showing valid photo ID before the exam is a requirement by provincial/territorial health authorities.

Once you begin the exam, a proctor connects via webcam and ensures the environment meets requirements (quiet, no external materials, no other people). You are observed during the entire exam. You may not use headphones, notes, or leave the room.

You may retake the exam an unlimited number of times unless suspected of cheating. In that case, you may be removed from the course and must re-enroll and pay again.

A score of at least 70% is required on the final exam to earn your certificate.

If you don’t pass on the first try, you can retake the exam (first retest free for the Diamond Package).   Each additional retest will be charged $20 CAD. Please contact our support team by calling 714-592-4100 or email us at support@aaafoodhandler.com to retake the exam.  You can only reach our support staff during business hours.

Immediately upon passing the final exam, your certificate becomes available for instant download. You are responsible for printing your own copy. No hard copy is mailed.

The certificate is valid for 5 years. After expiration, you must retake the course to renew.

The course is currently offered in English. However, accommodations are made for ESL users.

An interesting detail is that food intoxications and food infections are different things! They are caused by different things and the timing for symptoms are completely different.
