Know Before You Train

What Is Orange County Food Manager Certification?

Orange County Food Manager Certification is an official certification that confirms a food service manager has completed an ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) Accredited program and passed a state-approved exam. This certification ensures that food managers are equipped to maintain safe, sanitary, and compliant operations across restaurants, catering services, and other food establishments.

Under California law, it’s mandatory for every food facility to have at least one Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) on-site or on record to meet county and state health requirements. The certificate is valid for five years and can be renewed by completing a refresher exam.

Who Needs Orange County Food Manager Certification?

Any manager or supervisor responsible for overseeing food handling, preparation, or service in Orange County requires this certification. This includes:

  • Restaurant owners and general managers
  • Executive chefs and kitchen managers
  • Catering and banquet managers
  • Supervisors in school or hospital cafeterias

State law mandates that a certified manager is at par to ensure compliance with health and safety rules, particularly for facilities handling unpackaged or potentially hazardous foods.

What steps do I need to take to earn my certification as a Food Protection Manager in Orange County?

The AAA Food Handler makes the process simple. Complete our ANAB-accredited online course and pass the Certified Food Protection Manager exam from anywhere at your convenience. Our program is designed to help learners grasp essential food safety concepts quickly and confidently.

For staff who need food handler training, AAA also offers the California Food Handler Card, which pairs perfectly with your food manager certification to ensure total compliance.

What Are Orange County Food Safety Requirements?

Orange County aligns with California’s Health & Safety Code §113947, which requires that every food facility must have one certified food manager accountable for the safe handling of non-prepackaged, potentially hazardous foods.

Though completing a full course isn’t legally required to take the exam, we strongly recommend it to prepare thoroughly. Once passed, the CFPM certificate must be kept on file and accessible at the facility. If a certified manager leaves, the business has 60 days to replace them to remain compliant.

How Long Is the Orange County Food Manager Certification Valid?

Your certification is valid for five years. After that, renewal is required via the ANAB-accredited exam to maintain compliance and ensure continued proficiency in food safety practices.

Can I Complete the Orange County Food Manager Exam Online?

Yes! Food Manager offers entirely online proctored exams which are accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board (ANAB) and the Conference for Food Protection (ANAB-CFP). You can take the exam from anywhere, making it flexible and convenient for busy professionals.

Who Should Get Their Orange County Food Manager Card?

The law requires one certified manager per facility, but most establishments encourage all upper management, head chefs, and supervisors to obtain certification. This ensures consistent food safety practices and a compliant team across all shifts.

What Does a Food Manager Do?

Food managers carry critical responsibilities beyond operations. Their food safety duties include:

  • Implementing and enforcing proper hygiene and food handling procedures
  • Ensuring all employees hold valid food handler cards and maintaining documentation
  • Monitoring food storage, preparation, and service to prevent contamination
  • Confirming suppliers and deliveries meet safety standards
  • Preparing for inspections and audits

Certified food managers are also positioned for higher salaries due to their responsibility and expertise. For example, Food Service Managers in California earn an average of $57,920/year, while Executive Chefs average $51,400/year (BLS data).

Is Orange County Food Manager Training Legitimate?

Absolutely. AAA Food Handler provides ANAB-accredited, Conference for Food Protection (ANAB-CFP) recognized training that meets California and Orange County food safety requirements. Our courses adhere to strict standards, ensuring that every certified manager is prepared to maintain safe, compliant, and efficient operations.

Why Is ANAB Certification Required for Food Managers?

Foodborne illnesses remain a serious public health risk. Over a decade, thousands of outbreaks were linked to improper food handling, particularly Norovirus and Salmonella. Having certified managers on-site ensures that Orange County establishments proactively prevent these hazards.

Our ANAB-accredited program equips managers with practical knowledge and tools to:

  • Reduce the risk of contamination
  • Train staff in correct food handling procedures
  • Maintain inspection-ready facilities
  • Protect customers and employees alike.

By earning your Food Manager Certification through AAA Food Handler, you are portraying your expertise and dedication in maintaining the highest standards of food safety.

Very thorough and in depth training modules and information

January 20, 2026

I was impressed with the level of information presented as well as the visual and interactive nature of the modules. Overall, I would recommend this course for any newcomer looking to obtain their CFPM certificate. This would have been a five-star course but there were a couple of glitches in a couple of the videos which were reported to AAA support. Other than that, it was excellent.
