Know Before You Train
Being a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) shows that you have completed an ANAB-accredited training program and passed the CFPM exam. It ensures your establishment meets San Diego County health standards and maintains safe food handling practices.
California law requires owners, managers, or lead chefs overseeing unpackaged or potentially hazardous food to hold a valid certification. Many restaurants also certify multiple managers or chefs to cover all operational shifts.
You can enroll in the AAA Food Handler’s entirely online, ANAB-accredited course, complete the training at your own pace, and then take the online proctored CFPM exam. Once passed, you receive your certificate immediately, valid for five years.
Yes, the exam is administered via a secure online proctoring service, allowing you to take it from home or the office. The online format ensures convenience while maintaining state-approved exam standards.
Yes. California mandates that food safety managers also complete ANAB-accredited food allergy training, which AAA Food Handler includes as part of the program to ensure full regulatory compliance.
The certification is valid for five years. If the certified manager leaves or the facility changes ownership, a new CFPM must be designated, typically within 60 days, to maintain compliance with local laws.
The course covers essential areas such as:
At least one CFPM must be accessible during operational hours. While they do not need to be physically present at all times, they must be reachable on-site, by phone, or electronically to ensure compliance with San Diego County regulations.
AAA Food Handler offers fully ANAB-accredited, California-approved training, complete with instant certification, flexible online access, employer group management tools, and a satisfaction guarantee, providing you with confidence in compliance and food safety practices.
Under California Health & Safety Code §113947, all food facilities handling non-prepackaged, potentially hazardous foods must have at least one CFPM on staff. Managers must demonstrate knowledge of foodborne illness prevention, safe storage, hygiene, and employee training, as verified through an ANAB-accredited program.

The course was easy to follow and straightforward. The wording in some of the questions in the exam was questionable.
Amazing course
when having to-do training it helps to have clear instruction
Good
This was a good experience definitely made sense and i was able to achieve what i wanted.
The course was easy to follow and gave clear proper instructions on food saftey. I feel more confident about proper handling, sanitizing, and preventing contamination. Perfect for anyone in the food industry!
It was quick and easy for me to understand and learn
The course was well laid out well and explained necessity for food safety and correct procedures.
there was a lot of new things that I learned today
If we have already received this certificate in the past, we shouldn’t have to take the training course again. Renewals should be allowed to just take the test. Big waste of time. Feels like a money grab.
Very quick and informative
It wasn’t extremally dry or boring, and was to the point. I would recommend.
I felt the training was overall very comprehensive, and while I understand separating modules into very short videos in order to require more attention of a viewer to click for the next part, is better for focus and retention. It was also mildly annoying when combined with load times, and made the overall process feeled like it dragged more.
I loved this training.
